World premiere – Pride on Ice in Luleå, Sweden

Luleå’s ice track and roads were recently featured on CNN Travel’s bucket list of awe-inspiring natural wonders. Now, for the very first time, you can experience a Pride procession as you’ve never seen it before, with Luleå Pride on Ice.
“We want to create a unique experience in the Pride family, and the event takes place for the very first time on 10 March. Everyone is welcome, wherever in the world they live!” says Helena Carlsson, Chair of RFSL Luleå and northern Norrbotten County.

Luleå and its ice roads have received a great deal of international attention, not least after CNN Travel included the city’s ice track and roads on its bucket list of awe-inspiring natural wonders last winter. This caused quite a stir all over the world, and was also picked up locally here in Norrbotten.
“Sometimes we don’t appreciate what’s right under our noses. I guess ‘walking on water’ day-to-day is actually pretty amazing. This spawned the concept of a globally unique Pride procession on the ice track, and I’m delighted to say the first ever event will be held on 10 March. The Municipality of Luleå has been really supportive about the idea, and the aim is to make it an annual event. Naturally, I hope the entire Pride family will put Pride on Ice in Luleå on their very own bucket list!” says Helena Carlsson, Chair of RFSL Luleå and northern Norrbotten County.

“It’s important that we all show our support for the right of HBTQ persons to be themselves, as well as equality for all people. This is a burning issue. The parade highlights the fact that HBTQ rights are different all over the world, and emphasises the importance of safeguarding human rights with a section ‘marching for those who can’t’. Actively taking part in this unique occasion is a fantastic way of showing your support.”

The event takes place at Södra Hamn, Luleå, on 10 March 2018, from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The parade will start at 1.00 p.m.
“It would be great if everyone could wear bold and bright colours, bring along flags and help create a visually dazzling Pride procession starting at 1.00 p.m. We hope companies, organisations, students and sports clubs get involved and help put Luleå Pride on Ice on the map” says Helena Carlsson.
